Why ByteSell beats Sell.app

Sell.app and ByteSell agree on the part that matters most. Buyers should pay your own Stripe, PayPal or crypto wallet directly, and the platform should never hold the money. The difference is what that costs you. Sell.app takes 3% of every sale until you reach its $199.99 per month Advanced plan, where the fee drops to 0%. ByteSell charges 0% on every plan, and the first plan is $29 a month.

It is also worth checking who answers when something breaks. Sell.app’s own help pages route every question to a single in-dashboard live chat, and the only email address they list is for abuse reports. When a storefront is your income, that detail belongs in the comparison alongside the fee.

The flat price carries a fully brandable storefront with custom-coded themes on your own domain, Discord and Telegram gating, free unlimited affiliates and resellers, a real analytics suite, and delivery security most of the category skips.

Why sellers leave Sell.app

Sell.app is a digital-products storefront with an unusually honest money flow. Customers pay directly into the seller’s own connected accounts across fifteen-plus gateways, from cards and PayPal to iDEAL, Alipay and eight cryptocurrencies, so there is no platform-held balance, no payout day and nothing to withdraw. On top of that sits a capable product: native paid access for Discord, Telegram, Slack and WhatsApp, automated license-key and webhook delivery, and a public API. The Standard plan is free to open and gates nothing.

The catch is how it charges. Standard takes 3% of every sale, calculated per transaction and invoiced as a lump at the start of the following month, so the platform’s cut arrives as a separate bill you settle in arrears. That is comfortable at low volume and less so as a store grows, because the fee scales with revenue while the service underneath it stays the same. The only published exit is Advanced at $199.99 a month, which by Sell.app’s own pricing page adds exactly one thing: the removal of the 3%. Sellers in the wide middle, past hobby volume but nowhere near $199.99-a-month territory, are the ones who start shopping.

The paperwork sends some of them shopping too. Sell.app’s terms state that fees paid are non-refundable and that the company may terminate access at any time, with or without cause or notice, with possible forfeiture of the information tied to the account. Termination clauses are everywhere in this category, and to be fair the same terms carry no custody or payout-hold language at all, but sellers who read that paragraph while their whole catalog lives on the platform tend to want a plan B.

If your sales are occasional enough that 3% of a slow month rounds to pocket change, or your paid community lives on Slack or WhatsApp, or you need iDEAL, Alipay or a Paddle-powered merchant-of-record option today, Standard is one of the fairest free tiers in the category and you should probably keep it.

It depends on volume. While your sales are small, 3% of not much is hard to beat and Sell.app’s free tier is fair. Once revenue is steady, a flat 0% plan costs less, and the crossover is worked out on the ByteSell vs Sell.app page.

No. Customers pay directly into your own connected accounts and you receive the money instantly, with no platform balance or payout step. ByteSell, Billgang and Payhip all use the same non-custodial model.

The only published way is the Advanced plan at $199.99 a month, which removes the platform fee and adds nothing else. On ByteSell the rate is 0% on every plan, including the free one.
