The flat part does the damage
A fixed amount comes off every transaction whatever the price. On a cheap product it can outweigh the percentage on its own; on an expensive one you barely feel it.

Sales sit in your Gumroad balance before they are eligible for payout, and the balance has to clear a minimum first. Neither is a fee, and both are sourced below.
It buys you the tax paperwork
Gumroad is the merchant of record, so sales tax and VAT are off your desk entirely. If that is worth the cut to you, it is worth the cut. Worth knowing what the cut is.
What Gumroad charges on a sale
Every rate the calculator uses, linked to the Gumroad page it came from. The Gumroad alternatives list quotes the same charges in Gumroad’s own words, with the dates each one was read, and says where its sellers go.
On a direct sale, Gumroad charges a percentage of the price plus a flat amount per transaction. Because part of it is fixed, the effective rate is higher on cheap products than on expensive ones. Set your own price in the calculator above to see the figure for what you actually sell.
Discover is Gumroad’s own marketplace. When a new customer finds your product there rather than through a link you sent, the sale is charged at a higher flat rate that Gumroad quotes separately on its pricing page. No. Gumroad says outright that it does not charge a monthly fee and takes its cut per sale instead. That is genuinely good if you sell rarely, and it is why the yearly figure above is worth looking at: with nothing to cancel and no bill to notice, the cost only ever shows up inside sales you already made.
Gumroad returns its own platform fee on the refunded portion. Its help centre is the source for that and is quoted in the breakdown below, along with what happens on a chargeback, where the seller carries the refunded amount.
Every sale sits in your Gumroad balance for a minimum holding period before it is eligible for payout, and the balance has to reach a minimum before Gumroad will send anything at all. Both figures are quoted from Gumroad’s own getting-paid article in the fee breakdown below.
