ByteSell vs Shoprocket

TL;DR
Start with what these two platforms share, because it is unusual. Shoprocket charges 0% on every tier, never holds your money, and settles every sale directly into your own Stripe or PayPal account. That is the same non-custodial model ByteSell runs on, and Shoprocket even delivers license keys the same way, from a pre-uploaded pool sent automatically on purchase. On architecture alone, these are the two most honest checkout products you can put side by side.
The differences sit in the plans and in the shape of the product. Both entry paid plans cost $29 a month. ByteSell Pro includes selling subscriptions and connecting your own domain, and Shoprocket’s Starter can do neither, since both features start on its $79 Business tier. ByteSell also gates paid Discord and Telegram communities natively, granting access on payment and revoking it when a subscription lapses, and Shoprocket has no community gating at all. On the other side, Shoprocket’s embeddable widget for adding checkout to an existing website is excellent, and if that is your whole requirement it is the purpose-built tool.
Neither platform takes a cut of your sales, so this comparison is about what each plan includes rather than what it costs. ByteSell’s lowest plan is free where Shoprocket’s is $29, and at the same $29 the ByteSell tier carries features Shoprocket prices at $79.
On the published rates, ByteSell Free charges less than Shoprocket at every volume, at an average order value of $50. There is no revenue figure where the other one comes out cheaper.

What ByteSell includes and what $29 does not
Shoprocket’s pricing is refreshingly transparent about fees. Its site says plainly that it never takes a cut, and it means it. Where the plans diverge from ByteSell is in how features are distributed across tiers. Shoprocket’s entry plan, Starter at $29 a month, gives you a free my-store.shoprocket.io subdomain but cannot connect a custom domain and cannot sell subscriptions.
Sell subscriptions
That feature line appears on Shoprocket’s Business and Plus plans and is absent from Starter, which means recurring billing starts at $79 a month. Custom domains follow the same split. ByteSell draws the line differently. The free plan already includes subscriptions and recurring billing, coupons, upsells, a free affiliate program and full analytics, and Pro at $29 adds your own custom domain. If you sell anything on a recurring basis, the comparison at the entry tier is a free plan that does it against $79 to get it.
Community gating, and embed versus storefront
The clearest functional gap is community access. ByteSell gates paid Discord and Telegram memberships natively on the base plan. A buyer gets access the moment they pay, and access is revoked automatically when their subscription lapses, with no bot to build or webhook glue to maintain. WhatsApp and Slack support are on the way. Shoprocket has no Discord or Telegram gating, so if your product is membership in a community, one of these platforms does the core job out of the box and the other does not do it at all.
The other difference is the shape of the product itself. Shoprocket is embed-first, a checkout widget that drops a store into any existing website with one line of code, with a hosted store available as an option. ByteSell is a storefront in its own right, with your own branded site, custom themes and your own domain, built to be the destination itself. If you already have a site you love and want checkout inside it, Shoprocket’s embed is exactly the right tool. If you want the store itself, ByteSell is built for that.
Everything Shoprocket charges
ByteSell takes 0% per sale and nothing to pay you out, because your buyers pay your own Stripe, PayPal or wallet directly. Here is what Shoprocket charges, each line quoted from its own pages with a link to where it was read.
Shoprocket charges nothing per sale and nothing to get paid. Card payments go to the seller's own processor and crypto settles to the seller's own wallet, so there is no balance for a fee to come out of.
Where Shoprocket is the better choice
Shoprocket’s embed is the best implementation we know of for adding a cart to an existing website: a single line of code that works on any site, handling both physical and digital goods with support for more than forty payment methods. Its own site says it does not touch your money and never takes a cut, and the pricing page is unusually straight about what each plan does and does not include.
Digital delivery is also solid. Shoprocket auto-emails license keys from a pre-uploaded pool on purchase, the same delivery model ByteSell uses, and it is a well-made, founder-run product. A seller with an established website, a mix of physical and digital products, and no need for subscriptions on the entry tier will be well served by it.
Which one to pick
This is the closest comparison on our site, because both platforms got the fundamental thing right. Neither takes a percentage of your revenue, and both settle money directly into accounts you control. Choosing between them comes down to the entry plan and the product shape. ByteSell’s free plan includes subscriptions, community gating, an affiliate program and full analytics, and Pro at $29 adds a custom domain. Shoprocket’s $29 Starter includes none of those: subscriptions and custom domains wait until $79, and community gating is not offered on any plan.
Shoprocket is the answer when your website already exists and your requirement is a checkout embedded in it, because that embed is purpose-built and excellent. ByteSell is the answer when you are selling subscriptions, gating a Discord or Telegram community, or building a branded storefront on your own domain, and you want all of it without tiering up to $79. ByteSell’s free plan needs no card, and Shoprocket offers 14 days with no card until you go live.
ByteSell is in early access, so that link goes to the signup list rather than a checkout. The plans and limits described here match the ByteSell pricing page, which has the full breakdown.
