ByteSell vs Shoppy.gg
- Published
- July 31, 2026
TL;DR
Shoppy.gg is one of the older storefront platforms for digital goods, and it made the right call early: buyers pay you directly, into your own PayPal, Stripe account or crypto wallet, and the platform never holds your money. For that it takes 5% of every sale, so a percentage of your revenue is part of the deal however much you grow.
The rest of the comparison is about time. Shoppy has not been meaningfully modernized in years, and it shows in the interface buyers see and in the features that never arrived, from subscriptions and membership gating to built-in delivery security. ByteSell charges 0% on every plan, starting with a free one, and is built around what digital sellers actually run in 2026.
On the published rates, ByteSell Free charges less than Shoppy at every volume, at an average order value of $50. There is no revenue figure where the other one comes out cheaper.

The 5% that never quite leaves
Shoppy’s pricing is at least easy to state. The plan you land on takes 5% of every sale, and there is no published plan where that meter stops. Whatever you earn, a share of it goes to Shoppy.
ByteSell’s answer is a flat subscription and nothing else, or no subscription at all. The free plan, Pro at $29 and Business at $99 all take 0% of your sales, from the first order onward. A percentage fee and a flat fee feel similar when revenue is small, then diverge fast as it grows, and the calculator on this page will show you exactly where your own numbers cross.
A product that stayed in place
Open a Shoppy storefront next to any current checkout and the years are visible. The design has aged, and more importantly the feature set underneath it froze while the market moved. There are no subscriptions, so recurring revenue is off the table. There is no native Discord or Telegram membership gating, no license-key delivery, and no upsells at checkout. Analytics amount to a basic dashboard. There is no built-in delivery security, which is a strange gap for a platform whose sellers ship exactly the kind of product that gets shared the moment it leaves the store.
That list is roughly the job description of a digital sales platform now, and it is what ByteSell ships in the flat price. Sell a Discord or Telegram membership and access is granted when payment clears, then revoked automatically when the subscription lapses. Subscriptions, license keys and checkout upsells are built in. The analytics are a full suite. And delivered PDFs are stamped with the buyer’s identity while checkout traffic can be filtered for VPNs, Tor, proxies and disposable email addresses before an order ever exists. None of this is exotic anymore. It is simply the difference between a product that kept developing and one that did not.
What third parties say about the name on your checkout
Buyers research a checkout before paying a stranger through it, so it matters what they find.
Shoppy Ecommerce Ltd. TrustScore 1.4 out of 5, 328 reviews, 83% 1-star.
That is Trustpilot's record and not our assessment, and a seller weighing the platform should read it before deciding to build on it.
To be fair about what those numbers mean: review scores for a platform mostly reflect buyer experiences with stores hosted on it, and honest sellers operate on Shoppy every day. The trouble is that your conversion rate cannot tell the difference. A cautious buyer who searches the platform behind your checkout and finds a 1.4 rating has a reason to close the tab that has nothing to do with you. On ByteSell you sell from your own branded storefront on your own domain, so the reputation a buyer researches is the one you built.
The part Shoppy got right
Shoppy is non-custodial, and says so on its own answers page.
all payments go directly to the seller and therefore Shoppy does not hold/escrow payments
Buyers pay straight into the seller’s own PayPal, Stripe account or crypto wallet, with nothing held in between and nothing to withdraw. Shoppy committed to that architecture early, and it is the same one ByteSell runs on.
Delivery also works. Files, serial numbers and API-generated goods go out automatically the moment payment lands, which is the category’s core promise, and Shoppy keeps it. So Shoppy’s foundations are sound. The disagreement is with the 5% rent charged on those foundations, and with everything that was never built on top of them.
Everything Shoppy charges
ByteSell takes 0% per sale and nothing to pay you out, because your buyers pay your own Stripe, PayPal or wallet directly. Here is what Shoppy charges, each line quoted from its own pages with a link to where it was read.

Where Shoppy is the better choice
Shoppy has been non-custodial since long before the rest of this category caught up.

Which one to pick
Shoppy.gg is a workable choice for a seller who wants a free storefront with direct payments, has modest volume, and needs nothing more modern than instant delivery. The money model is right and the product does what it did five years ago.
That last clause is also the case for leaving. Once you want recurring revenue, gated communities, license keys, real analytics or any defence against leaks and throwaway-email fraud, Shoppy has no answer, and its 5% keeps billing you while you wait for one. ByteSell charges 0% on every plan including the free one, and ships that entire modern layer as the baseline. Run your numbers through the calculator above, then weigh what the percentage is currently buying you.
